Did you know just a 35-minute walk from Groombridge Station is the Birchden Vineyard and we’ve teamed up to offer you the chance to travel by train to Groombridge via Eridge, followed by the short walk to enjoy a delightful wine tasting before returning to Groombridge and taking the train back to Tunbridge Wells West.
They have a range of experiences available for you to enjoy and what better way to get there than by an old-fashioned heritage train ride? Your journey will be a combination of steam and diesel trains so you get the best of both worlds travelling through the stunning High Weald to get there! Each tour lasts around 90 minutes and then there is time for tasting at the end of your visit.
Children are welcome on these tours and can enjoy the delicious Birchden Apple Juice too!
Itinerary – March
- 12:00 Vineyard Tour: Board the Spa Valley Railway 11:00 train at Tunbridge Wells West Station and travel to Groombridge, alighting at 11:15. Click Book on website button to book your train ride tickets, just £10 per person. You will need to make your own way on foot to the Vineyard. You MUST book your Vineyard Tour tickets through the Vineyards website.
- Alight at Groombridge and make your way through the stunning countryside in Groombridge heading on a 35-minute walk to Birchden Vineyard to enjoy a fabulous wine tasting experience.
- You must pre-book with Birchden Vineyard directly via the link, we only sell your train tickets! You will need to make your own way on foot to the Vineyard
- Trains depart Groombridge in the Tunbridge Wells bound direction at 15:01 and 16:16, please ensure you allow plenty of time to get back to Groombridge station, we recommend arriving at 14:55 or 16:10 to ensure you don’t miss the train, the last service bound for Tunbridge Wells is at 16:16!

About Birchden Vineyard
Just outside Groombridge, East Sussex, you’ll find Birchden Vineyards. It’s a little slice of heaven; a family-run, 23-acre working farm where we work with nature and our community to lovingly produce mouth-watering wines, honey and apple juice.
Co-owned by – Tom & Andrea Lindeyer and Ralph & Jane Lindeyer – Birchden Vineyards became home to their families in 2019. Blissfully unaware of the magnitude of their undertaking, between young families and a pandemic, they embarked on a steep learning curve. They were determined to revive the unruly vines and surrounding farmland, and reveal all the magic that our beautiful farm had to offer.
From day one, they’ve been committed to responsible and sustainable farming, in harmony with nature and the local community. The orchard, beehives, a wildflower field, a lake teeming with wildfowl, and a diverse wildlife habitat all reflect our ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship.
They are passionate about raising our family in an environment filled with exploration and magic and you can now be part of their adventure and explore the beautiful vineyards they’ve worked so hard to revive.
