High Rocks Station

HR_1

The smallest, but arguably the most picturesque station on the Spa Valley Railway, High Rocks Halt was constructed from scratch and opened in 1998, following the closure of the original halt in the 1950s. Nestled within the gardens of the High Rocks Inn, it offers a truly unique setting where you can enjoy a drink on the terrace as heritage trains steam past just a few feet away.

This charming little station serves the spectacular High Rocks themselves — ancient sandstone formations dating back millions of years, linked by eleven bridges and surrounded by woodland trails in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It’s a must-stop location for those looking to combine stunning geology, countryside walks, and a refreshing drink in a beautifully landscaped setting.

What Makes High Rocks Special:

  • Direct access to the ancient sandstone outcrops – one of the region’s most breathtaking natural features.
  • Beautiful countryside walks – explore peaceful woodland footpaths from the station.
  • The High Rocks Inn – perfect for drinks, meals, or even attending a private event, with a large free car park for patrons and railway passengers.
  • A top spot for train watching – see the trains from the garden or walk high above for a spectacular overhead view.

Station Access & Facilities:

  • The station is set within the grounds of the High Rocks Inn, and can be accessed via a ramp from High Rocks Lane or directly through the inn.
  • The access gate to the platform is normally closed for safety, especially during private events. It will be opened by the train guard when the train arrives and closed again before departure.
  • Please note: Under-18s must be accompanied by an adult to access the High Rocks themselves.

Opening Hours & Entry Info:

  • The High Rocks are typically open Wednesday to Sunday (plus Bank Holiday Mondays) from 10:15am. They are closed on non-Bank Holiday Mondays and Tuesdays.
  • Entry tickets for the Rocks are sold from the lower public bar inside the High Rocks Inn.
  • As the site often hosts private functions, especially at weekends, please check directly with High Rocks before visiting to avoid disappointment. The railway and High Rocks are separate businesses, and we cannot guarantee access to their grounds.
